BotanAI is local-first. Your garden, your photos and your notes stay on the device, and a picture only leaves it when the phone is genuinely unsure and asks an identification service for a second opinion.
The identification is a cascade, not a cross-check. It is tried on-device first and escalated only when your phone is not sure: an offline model recognises common plants with nothing leaving the device, and only the harder photographs go on to Pl@ntNet and then Plant.id. You can read exactly how accurate the on-device model is, in full, including the plants it gets wrong.

Identification, on-device first
Three identification engines, tried on your phone first and escalated only when it is not sure. A fully offline model recognises common plants without anything leaving the device; harder photographs are handed to Pl@ntNet, then Plant.id.

The AI Plant Doctor
A text chat for pests, disease and nutrient problems. Type a question and it answers. If you attach a photo, the photo is analysed for its plant health and only a short text summary is sent to the chat model.

Use the phone camera to read how bright a spot really is, so you can place a plant where it will actually grow rather than where you hoped it would.

Weather-smart care reminders
Watering and care reminders that read the local forecast from your approximate location, so a reminder can skip the day the rain does the watering for you.

A dated photo history of each plant, kept on the device, so you can see a season of growth at a glance instead of guessing whether the new leaf is really new.

Yours, on your device
No account and no sign-in of any kind. Your garden, photos, care logs and chat history live in local storage on the phone. There is no BotanAI server for them to sync to.
And to whom.
There is no BotanAI server. When something leaves the phone it goes to a named third party, for one feature, and here is exactly what each one receives.

Every core feature is free: unlimited identification, the AI Plant Doctor, health and disease checks, the light meter, weather-smart care reminders and the growth timeline. The free tier keeps up to 20 plants in your garden.
Pro removes that cap for an unlimited garden. It is a Google Play subscription, priced at about 2.99 US dollars a month or 19.99 a year, with the exact price set in Google Play and shown in the app. There are no ads on either tier, ever.
